Description

The uniqueness of my oil paintings traces back to the details that each piece holds. I start with a black and white layer of color which mixes into 9 different shades of gray, giving light and dark values to create volume in the piece. Once that layer is dry and all details are in place, I apply a thin coat of translucent paint, adding on to the previous layers. Each layer has various colors building off each other in order to achieve a realistic image.

Each of my oil pieces represents a time-consuming and thorough process, in which each piece has in between 20-30 layers of paint. Dated back to the Renaissance period, this type of painting was popular and well-known with the name Trompe l'oeil.

Trompe-l'œil (/trɒmp ˈlɔɪ/ tromp LOY, French: [tʁɔ̃p lœj]; French for 'deceive the eye') is an art technique that uses realistic imagery to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects exist in three dimensions - Wikipedia
